Robert Eggers to Adapt A Christmas Carol
Director Robert Eggers, known for his work on Nosferatu and The Lighthouse, is set to write and direct a new adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel "A Christmas Carol" for Warner Bros. Pictures. He will also produce the film alongside Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus. Eggers, fresh off the success of his critically acclaimed Nosferatu, which grossed $181 million worldwide, aims to bring a unique vision to this well-known story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come.
Unlike many of the over 100 adaptations of this tale, Eggers plans to create a period drama that emphasizes Dickensian themes and gothic horror, as he prefers to work on projects set before World War II. Although casting discussions have not yet begun, it is rumored that he is writing the role of Scrooge for frequent collaborator Willem Dafoe. This adaptation promises to offer a fresh perspective on a beloved narrative.
